Statistics: Combining Concepts (Median, Mode, Range, Standard Deviation, Variance)
When GMAC really wants to challenge you with statistics questions, they will often combine different concepts into one question. That may mean asking you to compare the arithmetic mean and median of a set or asking how the median may change when a new value is added to a set with some other parameters. The sky is the limit in regards to what you might be asked.
The key is to have a solid understanding of the concepts and if you are only told some parameters of a data set, be sure to try **Plugging In** different extremes:
- What are the smallest values you can use? What are the largest?
- How many values can you make equal to each other? Can they all be distinct?
- Don't forget about negatives and fractions if they are allowed (**DOZEN F**!)
- If the question asks about the median, consider cases where there are both an odd and an even number of elements in the set.
