Sentence Correction: Redundancy - "as well as"

Paris is probably the most visited city and is a symbol of art and social history.

Although this answer choice corrects the original Superlative error by defining a group of which the city is the most visited, it creates Redundancy with the phrase as well as. Although as well as is a stylistic flaw, it is one of the specific redundancies that should always be corrected.

Using as well as instead of and is redundant.

What helps us identify this Redundancy error is the following Stop Sign:

as well as

This answer choice is grammatically incorrect. The Superlative form, indicated here by the use of the words the most visited, requires that the group under comparison be defined. However, this answer choice does not provide information about the group of which this city is the most visited.

In order for this Superlative to be complete, this group must be defined.

Although this answer choice corrects the original Superlative error by defining a group (in the world), it makes another Superlative error. The correct Superlative form is the most, not a most. When using the Superlative form we must use the and define the group.

Although this answer choice corrects the original Superlative error by defining a group of which the city is the most visited, it is wordy and, therefore, redundant.

Nicely done!
