Sentence Correction: Subject Verb Agreement - A Plural Subject Consisting of Singular Nouns that are Connected by 'and'

Reading novels and listening to music is Jane's favorite pastime on weekends

Incorrect.

This answer choice is grammatically incorrect. The subject of this sentence is everything that appears before the verb is: Reading novels and listening to music. This subject consists of two words -  reading and listening - connected by the word and. The word reading in itself is singular, and so is listening. However, the word and which connects them makes the subject plural.

Also, since reading novels and listening to music are two activities, the singular form pastime is less accurate than the plural pastimes.
