Sentence Correction: Preposition and Idiom Questions - Overview

West Side Story, a modern day adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, is the love story of Tony and Maria, set amidst the rivalry between The Jets, a white gang, with The Sharks, a Puerto Rican gang.

This answer choice is grammatically incorrect. The correct idiom is between A and B.

While this answer choice corrects the original preposition mistake, it doesn't stop there and makes another change: adding the word bitter. This changes the meaning of the original sentence.

Correct!

rivalry between The Jets, a white gang, with The Sharks, a Puerto Rican gang
rivalry between The Jets, a white gang, against The Sharks, a Puerto Rican gang
bitter rivalry between The Jets, a white gang, and The Sharks, a Puerto Rican gang
rivalry between The Jets, a white gang, to The Sharks, a Puerto Rican gang
